I didn’t expect much from this unassuming hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Almeida, Portugal. We were pleasantly surprised. Granitus turned out to be one of the culinary highlights of a trip chock-full of gastronomic delights. We ordered: Grilled Octopus (A+): The best grilled octopus I’ve ever had. So tender, juicy, and flavorful. Not rubbery at all! Bacalhau (A+): Perhaps the best salted cod fish (bacalhau) we had during our entire trip. And that’s saying a lot, considering Portugal is “bacalhau” heaven. House Salad (A-): Very fresh Steak (B): Decent but not their specialty The décor and the service are nothing special, but who cares? With grilled octopus and “bacalhau” this good, all else is forgiven. If you’re ever in the vicinity, close to the border with Spain, do yourself a favor and head to Granitus!

Great tasting food for a good price especially the menu of the day that includes the meal, wine, coffee and dessert for about 10€. Service was quick and the food came quickly. I will be back
